What is something we all take for granted, helps us get going in the morning, and most of us probably feel we can't live without?

But I bet most of us rarely even think about maintenance for it! 

 

One of the biggest reasons a home floods is due to lack of maintenance of your Water Heater. Manufacturers have built in ways to properly maintain your water heater. Water is corrosive and eats your tank from the inside out and builds up calcium deposits. There is a very important piece inside called an "Anode Rod".  Anode rods can be made of aluminum or magnesium. They work by electrolysis which deteriorates the rod instead of the metal of the tank. Once the Anode Rod is gone your water heater will begin to corrode.  The Anode Rod should be inspected every few years. You will also want to flush your water heater at this time to wash out any sediment at the bottom of the tank.

A majority of Water Heaters come with Aluminum Rods.  Aluminum is toxic to injest.  You can buy magnesium Anode Rods, which is a mineral our bodies can injest. (Magnesium is in your multi-vitamin).

So every few years, your water heater should be drained and cleaned out (all the calcium deposits) and the Anode Rod should be replaced.  Also consider using a magnesium Rod versus an Aluminum Rod, for overall better water quality.

The Pavilion announces 25th Performing Arts Season

This year marks The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion’s 25^th Season of presenting exceptional performing arts events, educational outreach programs and live music. The Pavilion opened April 27, 1990, with the Houston Symphony. Other performers in the inaugural season included Frank Sinatra, Alabama, Garth Brooks, James Taylor, Heart, Jimmy Buffett, Santana, Depeche Mode and more. George P. Mitchell, founder of The Woodlands, along with his wife Cynthia Woods Mitchell, for whom The Pavilion is named, dreamed of creating a first-class performing arts facility for The Woodlands since the community’s inception in 1974. They envisioned the facility as a venue for classical performances and educational events, as well as popular music.

Continuing with the great tradition of hosting classical performances, The Pavilion’s 2014 Performing Arts Season is filled with an exciting line-up including jazz legends, Spyro Gyra & Lee Ritenour, Houston Ballet’s Celebration of Stanton Welch, Houston Grand Opera’s “Carmen” and Houston Symphony’s See the Music, The Songs of Billy Joel with Michael Cavanaugh and DISNEY IN CONCERT Magical Music from the Movies. Other thrilling concerts include the Houston Symphony’s Best of Beethoven, Star-Spangled Salute and Hocus Pocus Pops as well as Wagner & Maazel “Ring Without Words” with the Texas Music Festival Orchestra and Holly Jolly Jingle. At the 19th Annual Children’s Festival fun takes center stage with award-winning children’s performers that encourage children to do the things they love most – flex their imaginations, express themselves, learn and grow.

At most performing arts events, mezzanine and lawn seating are free. Free seating sponsors include Anadarko Petroleum Corporation, H-E-B, Huntsman, Insperity, KPMG, LLP, Talisman Energy, the Wortham Foundation, Woodforest National Bank and The Woodlands Development Company. Orchestra seating for most events is $15. Guests are welcome to have a picnic in their seat or on the hill. Keep in mind that beverages cannot be brought into The Pavilion. Sitting on the hill? Lawn chairs also are provided free at all performing arts events.

Looking for the same great seats for every show? Subscribe to The Pavilion’s arts season tickets. Season tickets are just $175 per seat and include orchestra-level seating to all Houston Symphony concerts, Houston Ballet and Houston Grand Opera at The Pavilion, VIP on-site parking, admission to the Woodforest Bank VIP Club for each performance and a subscription to The Pavilion’s CenterStage newsletter. Performing arts subscribers also receive preferred seating and VIP on-site parking for the Houston Symphony’s Star-Spangled Salute and the Texas Music Festival Orchestra performances. Performing arts subscriptions are available beginning Monday, March 3 at noon. Spryo Gyra & Lee Ritenour and Children’s Festival are not included in season subscriptions, but you can purchase individual tickets.

Individual and season tickets go on sale Monday, March 3 at noon. Tickets can be purchased at The Pavilion Box Office, located at 2005 Lake Robbins Drive in The Woodlands, Texas. Tickets also are available at all Ticketmaster outlets, including Fiesta, Walmart, select H-E-B locations and Media Magic, by calling 800-745-3000 or online at www.ticketmaster.com.
